ABOUT

I am a fully insured and licensed fishing guide in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania specializing in smallmouth bass wading trips in Western P.A. on the Youghiogheny River and Allegheny River and there tributaries along with Presque Isle Bay and Lake Erie tributaries (During Spring) using artificial baits. My primary focus is to educate my clients on the most effective tactics used to catch and safely release smallmouth bass and other game species we may encounter during our wade trip. I know how and where to put you on fish, but in the end it's your trip and I'll do my best to accommodate your requests. These trips are catch, photo, and release only with barbless hooks and artificial lures only no exceptions.

THE TRIPS

Wade Fishing in the Allegheny and Youghiogheny Rivers (April 1st - September 31st)
up to 2 Anglers

I offer both full day (6-8 hour) and half day (4 hour) trips for Smallmouth Bass on the bottom Youghiogheny river from Connellsville to McKeesport and the middle Allegheny river from Tionesta to Franklin for 1 or 2 clients. We will be wading in water that is swift up to waist deep. When water temperatures are below 70 degrees waders and a PFD will be worn by everyone on the trip no exceptions over 70 degrees it's the clients decision. These trips are graded in difficulty Low, Moderate, and High. We will be walking in a river with rocks and they are slippery depending on the difficulty this is a tough task. Every person should be able to comfortably walk at least 4 miles on dry land most river trips are 1 to 2 miles. You must be able to swim or you will be required to wear a PFD. We will be fishing with artificial lures from 412 Bait Company and Rapala and using  GLoomis rods and Shimano Reels with Gamma line.

Wade Fishing Lake Erie Presque Isle and Erie Tributaries (April 15 -June 15th)
up to 2 Anglers

This trip is an all day trip 8-10 hrs that includes fishing Elk Creek and Presque Isle Bay. This trip is a long day and takes 10 hours with driving from the creek to the bay. The first week of May is when the action starts to get good with smallies in full prespawn mode. Water temps in the 50's have smallies ready to eat and action can be hot. Wading in the creek is pretty easy as well as the bay. An all day trip can make your back pretty sore so prepare for this.

Other Trips

I also offer specialty boat trips for 1 client on other selected reservoirs in western P.A. for those options contact me pete@smalliesontheyough.com.

EXPERIENCE

Pete has been fishing the Youghiogheny River for the past 23 years learning every riffle, eddy and current seam from Connellsville to McKeesport. Averaging 120 days on the water for the last 10 years he knows the river well. Along with his knowledge of the Youghiogheny river he has also been fishing the Allegheny river and it's tributaries for the last 15 years in search of bronze. He has fished some of the top smallmouth waters in the country including the Mississippi River in Minnesota, Lake St Clair, Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, and the Susquehanna River. He has also fished other waters all over the country catching Salmon in New York, Largemouth in Florida, Steelhead in Erie, and Catfish in Tennessee. Pete has been teaching people how, when, and where to fish for as long as he has been fishing. He has won awards from Berkley, In-Fisherman Master Angler, and has been in fishing articles from Bass Angler Magazine, In-Fisherman Magazine, Pittsburgh Tribune Review, PA Angler and Boater Magazine and North American Fisherman speaking on techniques and lures to use on smallmouth bass in Pennsylvania rivers.

There is always a chance to catch the many other species of fish like Muskie, Trout and Walleye that swim in the Allegheny and Yough.
